Estimation of Biomechanical Stimulus in Bone Scaffolds in Vivo: Multi-scale Finite Element Model

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Bone formation inside a scaffold is a complex process involving different phenomena, one of which being the mechanical stimulation (1,2). Our goal in bone tissue engineering is, through mechanical considerations, confer osteoinductivity to a synthetic bone scaffold. In this study, we present a micro-FE analysis allowing us to evaluate the mechanical stimulation in a bone scaffold inserted in a rat condyle when external load is applied to the leg of the rat. The developed model corresponds to an in vivo study where bone formation inside a scaffold has been obtained following mechanical stimulation.

متن کاملIndividualised, micro CT-based finite element modelling as a tool for biomechanical analysis related to tissue engineering of bone.
Load-bearing tissues, like bone, can be replaced by engineered tissues or tissue constructs. For the success of this treatment, a profound understanding is needed of the mechanical properties of both the native bone tissue and the construct. Also, the interaction between mechanical loading and bone regeneration and adaptation should be well understood. This paper demonstrates that microfocus co...
متن کاملEvaluating the impact of length and thread pitch on the stress distribution in dental implants and surrounding bone using finite element method
longevity of osseointegrated implants are intensely influenced by biomechanical factors. Control of these factors prevents mechanical complications, which include fracture of screws, components, or materials veneering the framework. In this study, the impact of length and threads pitch of dental implants on the stress distribution and maximum Von Mises stress in implant-abutment complex and ja...
متن کاملComputational Investigation on the Biomechanical Responses of the Osteocytes to the Compressive Stimulus: A Poroelastic Model
Osteocytes, the major type of bone cells embedded in the bone matrix and surrounded by the lacunar and canalicular system, can serve as biomechanosensors and biomechanotranducers of the bone. Theoretical analytical methods have been employed to investigate the biomechanical responses of osteocytes in vivo; the poroelastic properties have not been taken into consideration in the three-dimensiona...
